Defensive Publishing: An Empirical Study
This article by Joachim Henkel and Stefanie Pangerl gives some findings about defensive publication (DP) strategies of German Companies based on empirical study. It finds that 70 percent of the companies in its sample use DP, for up to one third of their inventions. Explaining the merits of DP, in particular cost effectiveness and securing freedom to operate, it argues that the use of DP will increase in the future.More
